JOB DESCRIPTION
Title of Post: Youth Service Assistant
Responsible to: The Coordinator of Diocesan Youth Services
The Diocese of Leeds is undertaking a thorough overhaul of its youth service provision and is offering the chance for a young Catholic to be part of a new and dynamic team based at Myddelton Grange in Ilkley. The ideal candidate will be a committed Catholic, aged 18 and over, who will be comfortable and at ease sharing their faith with young people during their contracted year. The year may be particularly attractive to those discerning the next step in their journey of faith.
The post is a fixed term beginning in late August 2012 and continuing to July 2013 and conditions of service are as set out in the contract.
MAIN DUTIES
The Youth Service Assistant will:
- be committed to deepening their own spiritual life (help and guidance in this will be provided if required);
- be eager to participate fully as a member of the Leeds Diocesan Youth Service team in the planning and delivery of residential and day retreats for schools, parishes and young adult groups both at Myddelton Grange and elsewhere. All retreats are led by an experienced member of the team;
- help organise, maintain and expand the youth resource materials;
- assist in the domestic arrangements for retreats at Myddelton Grange;
- be flexible in their approach to and availability for work both at Myddelton Grange and elsewhere within their contracted hours;
- participate fully as a member of the community living at Myddelton Grange by contributing to the daily tasks associated with communal living;
- attend and participate in meetings called by the Coordinator of Youth Services and/or the Chaplain to the Youth;
- uphold all diocesan policies relevant to the provision of retreats and services for young people both at Myddelton Grange and elsewhere;
- be subject to monitoring of how these policies are carried out;
- support the ethos, aspirations and promotion of youth work in the Diocese of Leeds;
- fulfil all contractual obligations placed on them;
- fulfil any other duties as requested by the Coordinator of Youth Services and/or the Chaplain to the Youth.
An allowance of £400 per month is offered together with living accommodation and full board based at Myddelton Grange.
